To call Dave Anderson’s setup “Tank of the Month”, is comical. In this case we will be calling it “Ocean of the month”.

Dave takes the idea of a “frag tank” to the extreme. His “frag tank” is a 240 gallon, 8 foot by 3 foot acrylic monster. The tank is also connected to a 75 gallon All-Glass tank and is plumbed together with a custom 180 gallon sump. Inside the sump you will find a Reef Octopus XP5000 Internal Skimmer and more live rock than most people have in their whole setup. The sump is constantly fed top-off water from Air Water Ice RO/DI with auto top-off, and to help supplement the growth of all the stony corals, Dave uses a My Reef Creations Calcium reactor.

To light the large 8 foot by 3 foot span of water, Dave uses 3-400 watt metal halide fixtures. The two outside bulbs are 12,000 k while the center one is 20,000 k. To power the bulbs he uses CoralVue ballasts.

Part of what makes Dave so successful is the diligence in maintaining pristine water mixed with excellent flow. To achieve optimal water movement he uses two Vortechs, four Maxijet mods, and two Sea Swirls on the returns.
Congratulations Dave on an amazing tank with some of the largest “frags” I have ever seen.
